YME's Sam Ohliger qualified and played in the Section 3AA Golf Tournament at Oakdale Golf Course outside Buffalo Lake on Tuesday, May 30. Sam brought in an 84 after the first day's play and finished at 180 after fighting the wind (17 MPH) and the cold (54 degrees) on Tuesday. He shot a 96. This finished Sam in the middle of the pack but failed to qualify the freshman for the MSHSL Tournament in June.

The winning team (New Ulm) and the low 5 individuals that are not on the New Ulm team qualified to compete at the MSHSL Tournament at Sand Creek in Jordan. New Ulm won the Tournament by 1 stroke over Minnewaska (649 - 650). Glavine Schugel from New Ulm was the medalist with a 2 day total of 147. Note of interest: Esten Stensrud, grandson of Don and Vera Finnes formerly from Granite Falls, finished in 3rd place carding a 154 for his team Minnewaska.

Also, Golf Awards were held last week for the 2017 season.
