Emily Baker is the new activities director at the Granite Falls Health Care Center, she is a Granite Falls native, and attended YME. She attended college at SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota, where she met her fiance.

She decided to move back home to be closer to family and currently lives in Hanley Falls, where she likes spending time outdoors and with her pets.

Her job is to coordinate and plan activities for residents, and even oversee a lot of activities and outings, the residents engage in a wide range of activities including going on outings, having beauty salon days (where residents get their hair done), cook outs, and many other activities. Her favorite part of her job is talking with residents and interacting with them everyday, she says she has always worked with the elderly and even worked as a social worker/activities director in her previous job.

A difficult part of the job is sometimes getting people to participate. “We give them a lot of encouragement, usually we are pretty good at that, but if they say no to doing something, we completely respect their decision, but we always have good turnouts to events and activities.” Baker said. Baket left off with saying she loves being back in Granite Falls and by her family and friends, and that her job is a “dream come true”.
