Troop 269 out of Clara City, has been very active this summer. The troop also consists of boys from the surrounding areas of Danube, Renville, Sacred Heart, Echo and Granite Falls.
In May the troop did road ditch cleanup along a 2 mile stretch on Hwy. 7 by Bunde.
Early June, five boys and two leaders attended the distinguished Order of the Arrow Conclave camping weekend at Stearns BSA campground in South Haven. OA is for boys and leaders who have shown leadership skills and are voted in to the conclave by their fellow scouts.
New inductees in the OA Conclave: Tarin Gatchell, Josh Kjorness, Paul Hornemann (Scoutmaster), Patrick Hornemann, Gary Zwetzig. Jordan & Eric (assistant Scoutmaster), current members of the Conclave, met them at Camp.
The Troop participated in a Flag Retirement Ceremony in Maynard the evening of June 14.
June 16-18, Lake Ringo Campout took place near Spicer and is a yearly fun event for swimming, fishing, and kayaking on some private land.
In July, the Troop had a float in the Maynard July 4th parade. Clara City Prairie Fest was a big event with parade, working in food booth as a fundraiser, and selling pop and water along the parade route. Local girl scouts were also invited to ride on the parade float.
Many Point camp is a BSA sponsored yearly week long experience that includes working on Merit Badges, outdoor adventure. Several of the older scouts were eligible to sleep on the water raft called Huck Finn for one night.
Two scouts, Hunter Bahr, Tarin Gatchell and and one leader, Dorian Gatchell, attended the BSA National Jamboree at the Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve in West Virginia on July 15-29th. National Jamboree takes place once every 4 years. Hunter got chosen to go on the Big Zip, a 3200 foot zip line experience, out of his Troop!
