Another Meander weekend over! Musical Chairs was a beautiful night with more tickets sold than last year. Thanks to the participating restaurants Granite Bowl, American Legion, Dallas II, Granite Run and The Rock for the great food ! Thanks to the Granite Area Arts Council for helping to host the first stop at the K.K. Berge Gallery that included a glass of wine. And thanks to the musicians Con Alegria, Mike Consentino, Verlyn Kling, Jerry Ostensoe and Kayla Daniels for the musical entertainment. A drawing for our local Meander artwork by Claire Swanson, Bradley Hall, Melanie Gatchell and Curt Soine was given away at the end of the evening. A visiting car club from Windom took part in the Musical Chairs evening and also had a tour of the Volstead House on Saturday. Congratulations to all the Meander artists who create all year long and host the Meander Art Crawl.
Work began this weekend on the Riverside Voices mural on the flood wall. Rain stopped the progress, but much of it is completed so stop and take a look!
The next event for this project will take place on Sunday, October 15 with poet Brian Laidlaw at the K.K. Berge building. The public is invited to participate in the poetry workshop from 2-5 p.m. A book of poems will be created over the length of the project as well as poetry that will be placed on the wall next summer. The current mural is just the beginning of this project funded by a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council. Brian will also be conducting a workshop on October 16 at Yellow Medicine East either as part of the art class by Tamara Isfeld or by another department.
Don't miss the visit this Thursday night, Oct. 5 at the Kilowatt Center by International Paranormal investigator, Adrian Lee. He has drawn large crowds at his events in other locations and we're excited to have him come to Granite Falls. Doors open at 6 p.m. with a $5 admission charge and donation to the Neighbor's United Food Shelf. He will be conducting investigations later in the month at the Volstead House and other locations in Granite Falls and will have another event in the spring where he shares the results of these.
The Volstead House Museum is open for two more Saturdays from 11-3, the last one of the season is October 14. It will also be open for Volstead's Halloween Birthday Party and Trick or Treating on Oct. 31.
