In their first game of the season, the Sting boys faced B.O.L.D. Both teams started with strong defense, there wasn’t much scoring for the first part of the game. The Sting started to find their rhythm. Nicky Lindstrom has some great passing to set up plays. Bennet Knapper hit some nice shots from the outside.
At the 10 minute mark the Sting tied it up 13-13. The score went back and forth, each team trying to edge out a lead. Unfortunately, YME started to accumulate a high number of fouls, and B.O.L.D. capitalized on free throws to pull away. The Sting fought hard, but some unfortunate passing let the away team intercept and score. The halftime score was 24-37.
During the second half, B.O.L.D. kept pulling away, 26-45. Carter Sneller put the Sting back on the board with a 3-pointer. YME started to catch up, 38-51. The boys had trouble claiming rebounds, and B.O.L.D. kept getting breakaways. the final was 51-75.
Coach Suter reported, “With the first game of the year, you put in your base defense and your base offense and try to run it. B.O.L.D. came out really aggressive and got us out of our comfort zone. I give them a lot of credit for, in my opinion, outworking us, If we stay out of foul trouble the whole base of the game will be different. We got into foul trouble in the first half and it was a real battle from there. The guys played hard, but it got away from us in the end.”
