The Sting girls have had a hectic schedule for the last two weeks. Last Tuesday the girls played at RCW. The game started off slow. YME built some momentum, and racked up 27 straight points. They finished strong with a lead of 39-12.
During the second half, RCW stepped up their defense a bit, slowing down the Sting’s scoring, but weren’t able to put much in their own basket. The final score was YME 65 RCW 26.
Coach Haakensen reported, “While the game was decisive in terms of a winning margin, I felt that we struggled with executing some of the details. I always tell the girls the best thing about BB is that games come fast. We don't have to wait a whole week and stew about Tuesday night's game. We get to pick up and play and rectify the mistakes we make quickly.”

On Friday the girls faced Central Minnesota Christian. YME started with a strong full court press. The Sting did a great job passing to create openings for easy shots. The Sting finished the first half 39-22. During the second half, YME got a 30 point lead and started digging deeper into the Varsity roster. The girls kept up their aggressive defense, and finished with a score of 77-52.
Coach Haakensen reported, “Friday's game was much cleaner. The girls came out and played hard. Our full court pressure was good and we ran the court well. Our guard play was exceptional. We were aggressive and passed the ball nicely. Madi knocked down 6 3-pointers. She has shot the ball very well the past several weeks. The game was an excellent team effort.”

Less than 24 hours later, on Saturday the girls had to face Westbrook/Walnut Grove. YME had killer defense, only allowing 14 points in the first half. WWG stepped up their game a bit in the second half, slowing down the Sting and scoring more as well. But YME had consistent pressure and a big lead, and finished strong 68-39.
Coach Haakenson reported, “Three game weeks are always tough. Legs tend to get heavy by the time we play that 3rd game of the week. Plus we were playing on a larger court. However, the girls came out and covered the court, hustling and creating many turnovers throughout the game. The girls, through the course of a season and adjusting to playing 94 feet with full court pressure, did a great job.
They looked well conditioned. Any time you are able to come out of a 3 game week with 3 wins, that's huge. The win vs WWG brings the girls season record to 11 wins and 4 losses. We travel to Dawson-Boyd on Thursday.
