It's wonderful to share my office with the Granite Area Arts Council and enjoy this historic building with the best view in town. This month, there is an exhibit by Yellow Medicine East students on display with the "meet the artist" reception scheduled for February 14 at 6:30. Don't miss the chance to view their work or attend this event and support these young local artists. On February 16, a new exhibit starts featuring John Sterner's painting and sculpture with the reception on March 8. The arts including theater, music, poetry as well as visual arts are an important community asset and we're fortunate to have an amazing collection of talented people in and around Granite Falls.

The Meander Arts Crawl in October is just one event that brings visitors from a large area. The Riverside Voices mural that's completed on the flood wall is already becoming an attraction. I see people photographing it all the time. This summer, more work will continue along the flood wall funded by a grant from the Southwest Minnesota Arts Council.

I am working with Placebase Productions' Ashley Hanson on a proposal to create an official City of Granite Falls artists residency program. It has to be approved by the city council before going ahead, but if this happens Granite Falls will be in the unique position of a city this size with its own artist residency program. Watch for more exciting news about our developing arts scene in Granite Falls! Our gorgeous riverside downtown can be a destination for art lovers as well as a reason for residents to want to live and work here. The K.K. Berge building is a place where local residents bring out of town visitors to show off what our small town has to offer. It's also an official Explore Minnesota Visitor Center as of January, 2018.
