Nothing tastes sweeter than community spirit and donuts or at least Carl’s Bakery hopes the people of Granite Falls share in this sentiment. The local bakery has entered the national “Sweetest Bakery in America” contest sponsored by Dawn Food Products, Incorporated. Carl’s Bakery has been a Granite Falls staple since 1957, operated by the Aus family for over 60 years. Husband and wife, Carl and Nancy Aus nurtured the bakery the first 30 years with their son Tom and wife Laurie taking over the bakery in the late 1980s. The bakery rests near the southern edge of Prentice Street’s downtown district overlooking the mighty Minnesota River.

This will be the bakery’s first attempt at the contest which offers an array of prizes. Awards from funds towards local public relations support, a party for staff and customers, national magazine ads, and trip for the winning bakery to work in Dawn’s Innovation studios for a day are all up for grabs. The new development area of Dawn foods was designed for the collaboration between brainstorming, baking, art and science. Prizes range in value from $500 to $10,000 dollars.

Help your local bakery gain national recognition, and highlight not only their baking skills but the community that supports them. Contest voting is open now until July 31, 2018. Carl’s Bakery’s lovers can vote twice a day, once in the shop and once online at: https:// sweetestbakeryinamerica.com/ bakery/carls-bakery/
