They say sitting is the new smoking and a recent study from the University of Sydney found that office workers who sit for eight to ten hours a day at their desks had a 48% increase in risk of death compared to those who sat four hours or less. That only should be enough incentive to invite your coworkers, family and friends to swing in to the Kilowatt Community Center on Thursday, April 12th between 11am and 3pm to check out this year’s community health fair. Our goal is simply to provide information and opportunities for community members to learn how to help their families stay healthy and safe. We do our best to encourage participants to take a proactive approach to their health and raise awareness and encourage simple steps that can be taken so that participants can live longer, healthier, more productive lives.
Attendees will find all kinds of information to help you in your quest for better health. In addition to the free and low cost health screenings, there will be a light lunch served between 11am and 2 pm by volunteers from the Senior Center. There are about forty groups signed up ready to provide you with useful information on a variety of factors that contribute to your overall wellness. Many of the booths have giveaways, or a chance to win a prize for stopping by. As always, the Granite Falls Lions and YME Community Education have teamed up to give one lucky attendee a Fitbit Alta fitness tracker to help with your fitness goals.
