What a beautiful weekend for the Yellow Medicine East prom. It was fun watching the cars line up to drop off all the gorgeous couples. I had a great location from the lawn of my daughter Sarina’s old church house across the street with her wedding taking place at the same time as the prom. I only mention the wedding because it got me thinking of all the local small businesses in the area as well as Granite Falls that benefited from our wedding plans. She had out-of-town guests that stayed at Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort, dined at local restaurants and went shopping locally. Some friends also stayed with her with many runs to Almich’s Market, Casey’s General Store and don’t forget Riverside Bottle Shop!

The wedding practice party on Friday featured organic, grass-fed lamb from The Lamb Shoppe near Hutchinson. Catering for the wedding was done by Java River in Montevideo with wine from Hinterland Vine-yards, beer from Talking Waters Brewery, dessert from Carl’s Bakery and a huge bag of Kiwanis popcorn stand popcorn was also on the menu. We shopped for gift bags and paper plates and napkins at The Dollar Stop. Gifts for the bridesmaids and groomsmen were purchased from The Falls Boutique and From the Ground Up Boutique. Recipients enjoyed a local gift as a souvenir of their weekend stay. Flowers and plants were purchased at Granite Floral and Landscaping. Fabric for decorating came from Heather’s Book Nook. When planning your wedding, graduation, or any large gathering, support your local businesses!

Riverside Market and Muse starts this Saturday, May 12. Vendors can set up for free along the downtown plazas, a food truck will be here for lunch. Don’t miss a free concert on the plaza next to the footbridge at 1 p.m. by Charlie Roth– “Americana, Folk, Blues, Country, Celtic, Charlie Roth is a unique blend of all these genres. What Charlie is best at is telling a story with his rich baritone vocal, acoustic guitar, rack harmonica, and foot percussion. His fifth album ‘Broken Ground’ reached up to #6 on the Euro Americana charts and continues to get air play all over the world. He has recorded with the likes of Sam Bush, Michael Bland and other American legends.” See you on Saturday!
