Happy September! With a new month comes new changes; school is officially back in session (good luck students and staff), the weather is cooling down, and the leaves will soon be changing colors. You will also soon be seeing some new additions to our downtown businesses and we can not wait to welcome them to town.

Last week I had the pleasure being part of a car show at the Granite Falls Health Care Center where I served ice cream sundaes to the residents and their families.

Amongst all of the changes, not only happening in Granite Falls but also in society as a whole, it was a great opportunity for me to step back and enjoy life in that moment without the distraction of my electronics and social media. I had the most genuine conversations and really enjoyed getting to know several residents and hearing their stories. Seeing the joy in their faces while looking at classic cars and enjoying their ice cream sundaes made me realize how the “little things” or more simple things in life really can bring the most happiness and a sense of calmness. It’s not about having the fanciest car, the nicest house or a brand new outfit for school, etc.

It’s hard to not get caught up in this fast paced world we now live in but I encourage you to just live in the moment. Don’t dwell on the materialistic things, get caught up in social media, or replying to a text message the minute it comes through...life is too short! Maybe even take time to volunteer or get involved with your community!
