Construction is already underway on a new 20,000 square foot expansion at Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort just outside of Granite Falls. According to casino General Manager, Barry Joannides, the new addition is entirely Non-Smoking, and will offer guests “a greater variety of slot machines” as well as “provide entertainment, food and bars in a smoke free environment.”
The new addition builds off the existing Non-Smoking area, which Joannides describes as, “very successful.” He added, “we want to offer more slot machine choices.”
The design for the project was created by Miller Architects and Builders, H&H Construction, Granite Falls Ready Mix, and J & R Electric have all been involved in the construction process.
The new area will feature additional gaming machines, food venue, two bars; the main level bar featuring 24 different draft beers which will include a 9 foot by 16 foot video wall and stage and a bar on the new upper level offering 16 draft beers and an outdoor patio. In addition to the gaming expansion, a banquet kitchen and ‘break out’ banquet room will also be added.
Once everything is complete, Joannides says that, “Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort will have the largest Non-Smoking gaming area in Minnesota.” He adds that unlike many other casinos, the HVAC ventilation system in the new section won’t be connected to the ventilation system in the Smoking Area, meaning it “will have its own dedicated ventilation system.”
According to Joannides, construction began on July 23. The new addition is expected to be open to the public sometime in April of 2019.
