On Monday ownership of Ladner’s True Value, a 75 year institution in the city of Granite Falls, and Monte True Value in Montevideo transferred to longtime Ladner employee Jeff Cobb.
Starting at age 15, when he repaired bicycles in a back room at the store, Cobb has worked for the Ladner family in their hardware and appliance business for over 30 years. Most recently he has been the store manager of Monte True Value.
Cobb said that he felt the purchase of Ladner’s was a good opportunity for both him and his sons, Kristopher and Jeffery, to grow in the business.
“It’s pretty exciting to be starting a ‘new’ business I guess,” said Cobb. “Though I’ve been working here for nearly 37 years, it is exciting being involved with everything that comes with owning a business. And it’s exciting to get the boys (Kristopher and Jeffery) involved... They’ll be a big part of the business as we go forward.”
Both Kristopher and Jeffery have been working full-time at the two True Value stores in Granite Falls and Montevideo and will continue to grow with the business; meaning that the stores will continue to be family owned and operated.
The only immediate change, as the business transitions from one Granite Falls family to another, will be the name of the Granite Falls store itself as it now becomes Granite True Value.
Said Cobb, “We’ll keep the business relatively the same, sure you might see some new products and things down the line, but our plan is to offer the same products and service that people have come to expect.”
As for the Ladner family, both Bob (who has owned Ladner’s for the past 30 years) and his father John (who has worked in and owned the store over the past 70 years) plan to remain involved in the business.
In a letter to their customers the Ladner’s said, “For 75 years it has been a privilege for the Ladner family to serve as your local hardware retailer...We are grateful for our many loyal customers and the friendships we have made through the years. We thank you for your business and we wish all the best to Jeff and his sons.”
