Filing for area school board and city council seats opened this Tuesday, Aug. 3 and will close Tuesday, Aug. 17. Listed below are the Yellow Medicine East School Board and the area city council seats that will be in contention for this year’s General Election on Nov. 2.
YME school board
• Three four year school board seats are up for election. Those seats are currently held by Elmo Volstad, Rich Jepson and Grant Velde.
Granite Falls
• Three City Council openings (four year terms): The Ward Two (Chippewa County) position is currently held by Steve Schaub and the two at-large openings are currently held by Steve Nordaune and DuWayne Galow.
Clarkfield
• Two City Council (four year term) and one opening for Mayor (two year term): The two Council openings are currently held by Steve Hubbard and Dave Biermaier and the Mayor position is currently held by Gene Kockelman.
Wood Lake
• Two City Council openings (four year term) and one opening for mayor (two year team): The two Council openings are currently held by Brad Timm and Kory Kotek and the Mayor position is currently held by DeWayne Schaffran.
Hanley Falls
• Two City Council openings (four year term) and one opening for Mayor (two year term): The two Council openings are currently held by Judy Enger and Sue Lindstrom and the Mayor position is currently held by Richard Hagen.
Echo
• Two City Council openings (four year term) and one opening for Mayor (two year term): The two Council openings are currently held by Rick Hanson and Helen Blue-Redner and the Mayor position is currently held by Daniel Larsen.
