The filing period for seats on the YME school board and area city councils came to a close on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Only two candidates filed for the four openings on the YME School board leaving the other two seats to be decided by write-in votes. The positions will be listed on the General Election ballot on Nov. 2.
YME school board
•Dawn Odegard filed for one of the three four-year terms that are currently being held by Elmo Volstad, Rich Jepson and Grant Velde. Both Volstad and Jepson did not file for re-election.
Grant Velde filed for the two year position that will fill the unexpired term of Larry Lee who recently resigned his school board position.
The other two four-year positions will be have to be filled by the two persons who receive the most write-in votes in the Nov.2 election.
Granite Falls
•Ward II (Chippewa County portion) alderperson Steve Schaub has filed for re-election to a four year term. Incumbents DuWayne Galow and Steve Nordaune as well as newcomer Andrew Peterson have filed for the two at-large seats currently held by Galow and Nordaune. Both of those at- large seats are for four years.
Clarkfield
•Incumbent Mayor Gene Kockelman has filed for another two year term. Incumbent Dave Biermaier and newcomer Neil Lindscheid have filed for the two City Council openings (each for four years). The seats are currently held by Biermaier and Steve Hubbard who is not seeking re-election.
Wood Lake
•Incumbent Mayor DeWayne Schaffran has filed for another two-year term. Current city council members Brad Timm and Kory Kotek have each filed for reelection to the two council seats which are both four-year positions.
Hanley Falls
•Incumbent Mayor Rich Hagen has filed for another two-year term. Incumbent Judy Enger and newcomer Laura Eckstrom have filed for the two four-year city council seats. Councilmember Sue Lindstrom did not file for re-election.
Echo
•Nobody had filed for the two-year Mayor position. Incumbent Helen Blue-Redner and newcomer Mike Zabel have filed for the two City Council openings (four years each). Council person Rick Hanson and Mayor Daniel Larson did not file for re-election.
