“JoDee Driggs is not new to our system,” shared YME Superintendent Al Stoeckman.  She was one of two educators whose teaching contracts for the 2010-2011 year were approved by the school board at Monday night’s meeting. Stoeckman went on to explain that Driggs has been employed by the district in the past as a substitute teacher. She has also served other school districts in the area as a substitute teacher.
The full time teaching position opened up at YME when teaching assignments for English teachers Trevor Schulte, and Laura Bristle were changed, and the probationary contract for Niki Royal was not renewed.   Schulte requested a change in assignment back to full time English and Bristle requested a change from full time to part time.
JoDee Driggs completed an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies from Ridgewater College in Willmar before graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communication Arts and Literature/ Secondary Education from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
Recommendations from administrators in the Renville County West and Willmar districts shared that Driggs’ commitment, teamwork skills, confidence and enthusiasm for teaching make her an excellent candidate for the position at YME.  As for experience, Driggs stated that one of her strengths was her understanding of teaching strategies and classroom procedures and her ability to implement them into her own teaching style. During the interview, Driggs shared that she is interested in extracurricular assignments in speech/debate and Knowledge Bowl.
“We liked the way that she connects to the students,” shared Stoeckman.  During the interview process he was impressed with the way she engaged the student council members who sat in on the interviews during the hiring process.
Driggs has been assigned to teach classes in English 9, English 11 and Advanced English 12.
