An intoxicated snowmobiler may have frozen to death had he not been discovered by a Yellow Medicine County Deputy while on a routine patrol during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Just after 1:00 a.m. an unidentified male was found laying a ditch in rural Hanley Falls along Highway 18. Information from Yellow Medicine County dispatch indicated that when the deputy discovered the man it appeared that he had been involved in a snowmobile accident, although no vehicle was in the vicinity.
The snowmobile was eventually discovered 2.5 miles away where it had crashed into a tree grove. The throttle had apparently frozen open following the initial accident and crossed over two roads before coming to the abrupt stop.
The man involved in the accident was taken to the Granite Falls Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. Hanley Falls First Responder, Hanley Falls Fire Department, Cottonwood Ambulance service responded to the scene.
