Curtis David Quale, 68, Granite Falls, plead guilty to first degree attempted murder while committing a pattern of domestic abuse, during a hearing at the Chipppewa County Courthouse on Wednesday.

A tearful Quale told the Judge Paul A. Nelson that he stabbed his housemate, Michelle Young, 47, and then failed to kill himself before he informed police of his crime hours after he had committed the act.

The first degree attempted murder charge holds a penalty of up to 20 years of incarceration. By accepting the plea, the prosecution agreed to have the accompanying lesser charges – single counts of second degree attempted murder, first degree assault with intent to cause great bodily harm and second degree assault with a dangerous weapon – dropped.

The incident took place on July 17 of this year.

Quale will be sentenced at a yet to be determined date.
