Ardis Mahon and her daughter Teresa received a rude awakening when a twelve-year-old girl driving in an oldsmobile smashed through the front porch of their home just before 2:00 a.m., Monday morning.
According to West Central Tribune the youth was driving an Oldsmobile Alero without permission when she hit the front step of a neighboring home before demolishing the porch at Mahon’s residence located at 655 Ninth Avenue.
“When it happened I thought it was a car accident in front of the house ... Teresa just heard the bang and thought I had fallen going to the bathroom.”
Mahon said that she and her daughter rushed down stairs and found, to their surprise, the automobile directly outside their home.
“I looked out the front door and said: Oh my God, it’s the front porch,” she recalled.
Mahon said that instead of investigating any further she called the Granite Falls Police Department, which was quick to arrive on the scene. She reported that the girl complained of chest pains and was taken to the Granite Falls hospital by the police department, but was found to have no injuries.
Fortunately, the enclosed L-shaped porch was not connected to the foundation of the house, so no major structural damage was inflicted upon Mahon’s home. She said that Soine Construction had already done a fine job cleaning up the mess by early Monday and that the construction crew would set about to rebuild the porch soon.
“What’s a 12 year old doing driving around at two o’clock in the morning?  asked Mahon. “Had it been my kid she would’ve been in bed by eight.”
