Curtis David Quale, 68, Granite Falls, entered no plea during Wednesday's settlement conference  presided over by Judge Paul A. Nelson at the Yellow Medicine County Courthouse. An additional settlement conference has been scheduled for November 2 at the Chippewa County Courthouse.

The charges against Quale stem from an incident on July 17 during which he was alleged to have repeatedly stabbed his housemate Michelle Young, 47. Following the incident she was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis for treatment. On Wednesday the court was informed that Young had been released from the hospital and is continuing to recover under the care  of family out of the Granite Falls area.

Quale was originally indicted on single counts of second degree attempted murder, first degree assault with intent to cause great bodily harm and second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, but received an additional charge for attempted murder in the first degree with a pattern of domestic abuse when it was discovered that Quale was involved in two prior episodes of domestic abuse that occurred on July 15, 2008 and May 11, 2009. Quale received the additional charge at the first settlement conference held September 14 at the Chippewa County Courthouse.
