Two drivers, both alone in their cars, were  killed Saturday morning in a collision in St. Cloud, according to St. Cloud police Sgt. Jeff Janssen.
Donald J. Haase, 64, of St. Cloud, was driving east on 8th Street No., when, according to witnesses, his pickup appeared to accelerate out of control, then crossed the center median and hit a car driven by Jessica Thaemlitz, 26, of Boyd, who had been making a left-hand turn onto 8th Street No., from 54 Avenue.
Haase’s pickup continued down the road and plunged into a ditch, snapping off a power line, Janssen said. Emergency crews were unable to reach Haase until Xcel Energy crews had cleared the power lines, and 54th Avenue and 8th Street No., were  closed for several hours after the crash.
Both Haase and Thaemlitz died at the scene, Janssen said. Investigators are awaiting autopsy results to determine whether Haase might have had a medical condition that played a role in the crash, he said. Both drivers were believed to have been wearing seat belts.
Her funeral is scheduled for Friday, May 7 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd
The Hanson and Dahl Funeral Home  of Dawson is handling the arrangements.
