Malcolm LeRoy Norgaard (Mike), died on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Sterling Pointe Senior Living Community in Princeton. He was 91 years old. Mike, son of Norwegian immigrants Endre and Tone (Tina) Norgaard, was born on June 24, 1926 in Hazel Run. The third of six children, Mike spent his youth working on the family farm along side his brothers and sisters. Mike was baptized and confirmed at Hazel Run Lutheran Church and attended local schools, graduating from Clarkfield High School where he enjoyed playing football.
In 1945 he played in the Minnesota All Stars football game at Memorial Stadium. He then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings where he played football for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits and studied agriculture. He returned to the family farm in 1948 when his father died unexpectedly. Mike served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-1953. He then worked for the Ford Motor Company in St. Paul and met his future wife, Anna. They were married in 1958.
In 1969 Mike and Anna moved their family to a farm north of Mora where they raised their family and lived a blessed life. Mike enjoyed raising cattle, sheep and chickens, working in the fields of the farm, and in his later years he was likely to be found riding his 4-wheeler around the farm or at the cabin fishing with his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Anna; his parents, Endre and Tone; his brothers, Olaf Norgaard and Frederick Norgaard; his sisters, Gudrun Nelson and Lois Moen.
Mike is survived by his brother, David (Mary Lou) Norgaard; his sons, Curtis Norgaard and Jeffrey (Mona) Norgaard; his daughters, Ann Norgaard and Melody Norgaard; his grandchildren, Daniel Nier, Katherine Nier, Eva Nier, Charlie Hendrickson, Andrew Nor-gaard, Benjamin Hendrick-son, Anna N. Norgaard and Jacob Hendrickson; great grandson, Theo as well as several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a..m. on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating. Music was provided by Kerry Long, John Paulson, Anna N. Norgaard, Arnie Anderson and Natalie Thorson. Casket bearers: Daniel Nier, Eva Nier, Andrew Norgaard, Charles Hendrickson, Benjamin Hendrickson, Anna N. Nor-gaard and Jacob Hendrickson. Visitation was on Thursday, April 12, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. The flags on Main Street were provided by Mora American Legion Post 201. Burial with full military honors will be held at a later date at Diamond Lake Cemetery in Aitkin.
