Verna Myhre, 85 of Montevideo, died Sunday, January 24, 2010 at Luther Haven Nursing Home. Funeral services were held on Friday, January 29 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.
Verna Deline Myhre was born on Sept. 15, 1924 in Swift County, the daughter of Edwin Oliver and Emilie Louise (Gilsrud) Evenson. She was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Benson on October 12, 1924 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith on May 14, 1939. She attended country school in Swift County.
On April 8, 1950, Verna was united in marriage to Luverne Myhre in Benson and assisted her husband in operating the family farm in Mandt Township, Chippewa County until their retirement and subsequent move into Montevideo in 1982. Luverne passed away in 1998.
Verna was a hard working woman, devoted to her family. She was employed for a time as a baker’s assistant and loved to cook and bake for her family and friends. She also enjoyed flower gardening, quilting and spending time with her family. Verna was a faithful member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo and continued in her faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo during her later years.
Surviving family include her son Steve (Terri) Myhre of Montevideo, her daughter Shelley Loose (special friend Randy Jeseritz) of Mayer; granddaughters: Andrea Myhre of Philomath, Oregon; Tera (Allen) Gades of Montevideo, Brooke Schommer Jeff Haselhorst) of Cold Spring, and Shannon (Dan) Mostad of Papillion, Nebraska; four great grand children: Mateo, Zaiya, Tyler and Evan; stepchildren: Roger (Mary) Myhre of Brinnon, Washington and Barb (Duane) Erickson of Ulen; sisters: Amy Stay of St. Paul, Violet Jerve of Plymouth, LaVina Evenson of Minnetonka, and Mardell (Keith) Kennedy of Bloomington; brothers: Raynold (Carol) Evenson of Montevideo and Dean (Shirley) Evenson of Benson; brother-in-law Melvin Norby of Montevideo; sisters-in-law: Virginia Evenson of Montevideo and Marjorie Evenson of Benson; several step grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Preceding her in death were her husband Luverne in 1998; her parents; four brothers and one sister.
