Minnie Johnson, 94, died on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at Luther Haven in Montevideo.
    Memorial services were held on Monday, Dec. 21, 2009 at Bergen Lutheran Church in Stony Run Township, with Pastor Steve Weston officiating.  Burial will take place at the Bergen Lutheran Cemetery in Stony Run Township in 2010.   
    Minnie Geneva Johnson was born March 30, 1915 in Stony Run Township of Yellow Medicine County, to parents Thomas and Bertina (Eide) Benson.  She was born the 6th out of 12 children.  She was baptized and confirmed at Bergen Lutheran Church. Minnie attended School District #4 for the 1st through 8th grade and then attended Granite Falls High School, graduating in 1936.  Minnie married Eugene McGregor Johnson in 1946.
    Minnie lived on the farm 3 miles southeast of Boyd.  She made this a comfortable home for her 2 sons, Robert and Lowell, as well as two brothers: Thoralf and Oliver Benson.  Minnie’s parents also lived on this farm having taken care of them for many years.  She worked at the Clarkfield Care Center for several years.
    Minnie was an active member of Bergen Lutheran Church her entire life. She taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir, was involved with the church library, as well as WELCA for many years.  She also belonged to the Boyd Homemakers Club as well as volunteering at the Montevideo Public Library.  She enjoyed her flowers on her farm as well as knitting and making many quilts.
    She moved to Montevideo in 1989 with her brother, Oliver.  They did much traveling together including Hawaii and Norway.  They traveled in all but 3 states. Oliver passed away in July of 2009.  In 2005,   Minnie and Oliver sold their home and moved to Brookside Manor.  Minnie became a resident of Luther Haven in January of 2006.
     She is survived by her sons Robert (Jeannie) of Finlayson, and Lowell (Mary) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kim (Matt) Jarvi, Heather Johnson, Stephanie (Steve) Nunn, Ryan (Angie) Johnson and her great grandchildren Danielle and Sam Jarvi, Elizabeth and Timothy Nunn and a step granddaughter, Amy (Justin) Westin and children, Cheyanne and Jenna and step great grandchildren Josh and Brittany Nunn.  Also surviving are her siblings: Ruth Laemmle, Linda (Hilman) Korstad and Thoralf  (Myrtle) Benson and many nieces and nephews.
    Minnie was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Bertina Benson; brothers: Theodore (in infancy), Harold, Eldor, Oliver and sisters: Esther Dahlgren, Ellen Weigt, Corella Rasmussen, Thelma Berg and niece Marjo Ross.
    Arrangements were with Lynner Funeral Home of Clarkfield.
