Obituary: Harlan Henke

   Harlan Henke, 83, of Granite Falls, died Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.
    Memorial services with Military Honors were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 21, at the Granite Lutheran Church. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Granite Falls.
    Funeral arrangements were with the Wing-Bain Funeral Home of Granite Falls.
    Harlan Raymond Henke was born December 2, 1926 in Wood Lake, Minnesota, the son of Edward and Laura (Goltz) Henke.    He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wood Lake, Minnesota.            He grew up and attended school in the Wood Lake area, graduating with the class of 1944 from Wood Lake High School.
    During World War II, Harlan proudly served his country in the United States Navy, receiving his honorable discharge on February 18, 1948.        
    On June 27, 1959 Harlan was united in marriage to Lois Rakke at Granite Falls Lutheran Church.  To this union one daughter was born.  Harlan went to work at the new N.S.P. Plant in Granite Falls, and worked as an equipment operator and shift supervisor for 39 years retiring in 1989.             
    He was a lifetime member of the Granite Falls V.F.W. and American Legion and assisted with the Honor Guard. He also enjoyed many hours of golfing, bowling and bird hunting.           Harlan is survived by his wife Lois Henke of Granite Falls; daughter: Stacy (William) Pollard of New London, Minnesota; grandsons: Tyler and Trevor Pollard; sister: LaVonne Moore of Millington, Tennessee; sister-in-law Dorothy Henke; and several nieces and nephews.       
    He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Laura; brothers: Leonard and Herbert Henke.
