It is a special time of the year when classes begin at Minnesota West in Granite Falls. The welcome sight of new and returning students is always a good sign for the community.
We are fortunate to be able to host those students and the campus that offers the programs they are pursuing. While the students and the programs are always the focus, the new and the returning faculty and staff are a welcome sight, too.
The classes and the careers that the local college offers to folks are good examples of the impact that a statewide higher education system can have in a small town. For many years, economic development efforts in Granite Falls and much of our area have been based on several of the programs that have been a part of Minnesota West and its predecessors. That remains true today as the campus is front and center to many of the local and area economic efforts. Having the campus full of students, faculty and staff is a good sign and one that we welcome each August.
Upgrades to the Minnesota West facilities in recent years have added to what was already a very high quality education experience and one that will serve these students well. Their time here will always be something that they will remember and, as a community, we reach out and welcome them during these first weeks of class.
