Link Steffen, a 1993 graduate of Granite Falls-Clarkfield, was named Section 1A wrestling coach of the year for leading Zumbrota-Mazeppa to the Class A State Tournament. This year marks Zumbrota-Mazeppa’s first State Tournament appearance since 1998.

Jim Dotseth, a 1961 graduate of Clarkfield High School, is to be inducted in the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Dotseth is being inducted into the citation division of the Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to Minnesota High School Football.

Having just breezed through the Section 3A Individual Tournament with three straight pins, Justin Tongen stood in the concourse just outside of the sweltering Redwood Valley gym trying to give his first interview since earning his first trip to the State Tournament.
The tournament still thundered inside the packed gym while Tongen smiled and answered trying to ignore his coaches who giggled and offered answers like, “First, I’d like to thank God...” and “Justin Tongen is just one man.”

After losing to Pipestone in their final home dual of the season 36-29, they figured that they only had to turn around one or two close matches to mildly upset the fourth-seeded Arrows.

It ended as it should.
No, the Yellow Medicine East Silhouettes fourteenth straight State appearance did not end with draped medals or triumphant trophies as most great stories might. And it would not end with tears, either, though some may have been shed on the way. No, instead the Silhouettes’ trip to State would end with an impromptu pile of giggling girls hastily posing for a photo which captured all the goodness that is possible in sport.
