One Sting track team member will be heading off to the Twin Cities this weekend to compete in the State track meet.

Josh Hoernemann will be representing YME at Hamlin University June 10 and 11 in the discus field event after placing high in the discus in the section track meet at Redwood Valley last weekend.

Hoernemann placed second in the discus with a throw of 144-06. He was topped only by first place discus thrower Noah Jensen of Lac qui Parle who threw a score of 145-09.

Hoernemann also competed in the shot put event at the section meet but narrowly missed qualifying for the State level competition. He threw a third place earning 47-05.25, missing the State qualification by a single spot.

Seven other Sting athletes competed at the Section meet. For the girls, Kaitlyn Ladwig, Meeghan Dahlager, and Chelsea Hoernemann were the representatives for YME.

Ladwig placed ninth in the pole vault, with a jump score of 8-00.00. Hoernemann placed fourteenth in the shot put with a throw of 29-04.75 and Meeghan Dahlager placed sixth with a jump of 32-09.00 in the triple jump.

For running events, Ladwig was the single entry, with her placing 12th with a time of 5:57.30.

On the boy’s side of the team, Brandon Rice, Blake Helgeson, and Rory Shackelford were the other entrants, aside from Josh Hoernemann.

All three boys competed in running events. Helgeson competed in the 800 meter run and placed 13th with a time of 2:11.38. Rice placed 10th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 18.07. Finally, Rory Shackelford placed eighth with a time of 10:49.73 in the 3200 meter run.
