Jim Dotseth, a 1961 graduate of Clarkfield High School, is to be inducted in the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Dotseth is being inducted into the citation division of the Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to Minnesota High School Football.
While at Clarkfield High School Dotseth earned varsity letters in football, basketball, track and baseball. He then went on to Waldorf Community College, in Forest City Iowa, where he played both football and basketball his freshman and sophomore years. At Waldorf, Dotseth would be named all conference in football and all state in basketball.
Dotseth later finished his college degree at the University of Minnesota in 1968. He would receive his Masters of Education from the U of M in 1972.
Dotseth spent the majority of his career working in the Minneapolis Public School System. During those years, he coached at a variety of levels. At Roosevelt, Dotseth would win 10 conference wrestling titles. Dotseth would also act as head football coach at both Patrick Henry and Robinsdale Armstrong. Dotseth would finish his education career in the Chaska school system where he worked in administration.
Dotseth is an active member of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association (MFCA). He has chaired several committees past and present, including: Past MFCA Banquet Chair, past MFCA All-Star Game Director, current MFCA Awards Committee Chair, Current Secretary Treasurer for the MFCA
In 1987, Dotseth would be named to the Metro coaching staff for the MFCA All Star Game. Then in 1998, Dotseth would receive the MFCA Distinguished Service Award. And in 2000, Dotseth would be named to the Waldorf College Hall of Fame.
While coaching at the high school level, Dotseth would be named Minneapolis Conference Coach of the Year several times while coaching both wrestling and football. While coaching wrestling at Minneapolis Roosevelt High School, Dotseth tallied a 185-96-8 record.
Dotseth is still active in his community and works with Urban Volunteers and Peace Reformed Church. He also works with Living Word Christian Center in Brooklyn Park.
Dotseth and his wife Wanda have two daughters and three grandchildren.
Dotseth’s induction will occur at the forty-sixth annual Minnesota Football Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame Banquet on Saturday, March 27. Other inductees include high school football coaches David Dose (Glencoe-Silver Lake), Dennis Hale (Worthington) and Jim Reinhardt (Rushford-Peterson).
Past inductees include Bud Grant, John Gagliardi, Sid Hartman and former Yellow Medicine East head football coach Dave Brokke.
