YME 61, BOLD 46
What a difference a week makes.
After losing to BOLD by 23 points last week, Yellow Medicine East would even the season series against their conference foe with a 38 point turnaround from their last meeting and earn a fifteen point win Tuesday night in Granite Falls.
YME would play their most inspired game of the season both offensively and defensively and dominated the Warriors.
“I have no idea what clicked tonight and it was nice to see. We’ve gone through some struggles, but tonight we get a win that we weren’t supposed to get,” said YME head coach Brandon Raymo. “They played inspired. Offensively we took care of the ball and we’re a good team when we don’t turn the ball over.”
That’s right—coach said good team—and that adjective wasn’t even used as puffery. Yet it has been so long since the adjective good has been used in relation to the YME boys basketball team, Raymo was timid in using it. But he had every right to. In the context of Tuesday night’s conference win it wasn’t even an exaggeration.
The Sting played good. Darn good. Good enough that I feel comfortable breaking the rules of grammar to describe them.
Now YME will face a Minnewaska team who just lost to BOLD in their home finale this Thursday. Meaning YME will have a chance to earn their seventh victory.
That is, as long as they keep playing good.
Said Raymo, “This is the third game in a row we’ve played well. We’re peaking at the right time and we’re at that point in the season where anything can happen.”
