YME 65, ACGC 60
For the first time in three years Yellow Medicine East has notched multiple West Central South Conference victories with a 65-60 victory over Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City Friday night.

Four players for YME would score in the double figures as the Sting managed to hold on to the five point home victory.

Taylor Olson’s three three-pointers in the second half and his game-high 23 points would spark the Sting offense.

“Every time he shot I was praying for it to go in so we could get on a little roll,” said YME head coach Brandon Raymo. “And that’s what happened. He hit two threes back-to-back and we were able to get on a little roll there and build up that little lead.”

Now with more wins this season than they’ve had in the past two, YME now seems to be in unfamiliar territory as they begin to meet and exceed expectations while accomplishing the goals they set out for themselves at the beginning of the season.

Said Raymo, “At the beginning of the season I asked the guys to realistically look at how many games we could win this season. Everyone wants to say they’ll win 12 or 15 games, but realistically the players looked at it and everyone said they thought we could get five or seven wins this season. We’re at five right now and it sure would be nice to get to seven.”
And Raymo, like every coach knows exactly how the team can exceed their goals as we head into the backstretch of the season.

Said Raymo, “We need to play better defense—plain and simple. The defense is going to carry us these next couple weeks.”
