Sacred Heart 3, GF 1
Eventual American Legion District 7-II champion, Sacred Heart and their hurler—Dakota Freiborg—were just a tad more than Granite Falls could handle Thursday in the opening round game of the double-elimination tournament.
Freiborg struck out 10, allowed just three hits and walked just a single batter in the 3-1 pitchers duel.
Freiborg’s foil would be Mason Hegna, who kept Granite in the ball game with a five-hit complete game of his own.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, Jordan Hagert got Granite on the board in the fourth after he doubled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a fielding error.
Sacred Heart regained their insurance run in the fifth on an infield RBI that was turned on for a double play.
