On Monday, during a special Granite Falls City Council budget session, City Manager Bill Lavin announced that he had accepted a letter of resignation from new Finance Director, Mary Swenson, submitted on September 17.
Swenson took over as the city finance director on July 9 in place of 13-year finance director, Darcy Mulvihill. Swenson said the job “just wasn’t the right fit,” and made the decision after much deliberation.
The council approved Lavin’s request to begin advertising for the position that is charged with planning, organizing and directing all financial activities for the city.
Swenson has indicated that she will assist the city a few days a week during the transition. The city will also enlist the services of St. Cloud private accounting firm, KDV, to help in the intern.
