Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield celebrates 50th anniversary

Fifty years ago, the Valhalla Apartments opened in Clarkfield, after a lot of effort from a board that was formed in order to secure the building for Clarkfield’s future. Richard Petersen, of Clarkfield, is one of the original Board members. “I got appointed to the board after one of the original board members left town and I was selected to be on the board for quite a long time during the construction phase of the facility,” Petersen recalls.

YME girls basketball team takes one-point loss to Canby

The YME girls basketball team played a fastpaced, close game against the Canby Lancers at home Thursday evening, taking a loss of 45-46. Leaders in that game included Shelby Mortenson who scored 30 points with 12 rebounds. Stella Schuler added another 8 points with one three-pointer and six steals to add to the team total. Dean Willis Vik

EAGAN - Dean Willis Vik, age 78, of Eagan, MN, died suddenly on Friday, February 4, 2022. Dean was born March 16, 1943 in Minneapolis, and grew up in Cottonwood, MN with the love of his mother and step-father, as well as his maternal grandparents, Rachel and Edward Harmening.

Janet Marie Feldman

SACRED HEART - Janet Marie Feldman, age 68, of Sacred Heart, gained her Angel wings on Monday, February 7, 2022, at the RenVilla Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. The Vicar Gwen Arneson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church in Sacred Heart. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service, Renville, MN.

Margaret Morland

ST. CHARLES, MN (ORIGINALLY OF CLARKFIELD, MN) - Margaret Leone Day was born on October 17, 1932, one of Sidney and Laurena (Reiten) Day’s 10 children, in Granite Falls, MN. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1949 before marrying Harry Morland on July 6, 1951 at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. The couple had 4 children: Marcia, Laurie, Michael, and JoAnn. Shortly after they wed, Harry served in the Air Force until his discharge in 1954 when the family moved back to Clarkfield to take over the family farm. Margaret and Harry were the owners of Morland Country Store, 7 miles south of Clarkfield right off Highway 59, and she dabbled in retail throughout her life. Above all, Margaret and Harry loved adventuring in their camper, especially in the Lake Okoboji, IA area, and enjoyed going dancing together. Known as the quiet one, Margaret could sew and made her children’s clothes herself. She also collected dolls, enjoyed bowling, and relished time spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
