Jerry Ostensoe was a strong pillar in the local arts community. He passed away from ALS on August 29th, 2022. On Friday, October 21st there was a live music event held as a tribute show to him with a packed house at Bluenose Gopher Public house, full of song and laughter. Charlie Roth, who was a longtime friend of Ostensoe, headlined the tribute show. From 7 pm – 9 pm, Roth played, laughed and reminisced with the audience as well as other artists who were longtime friends of Ostensoe’s who showed up to perform with Roth. There was no shortage of people in attendance who wanted to celebrate Ostensoe’s musically inclined life.

Through all of October the gospel text in the Revised Common Lectionary has been on Jesus talking about faith, praise, and prayer to God. Jesus emphasized that faith the size of a mustard seed is all you need; Jesus reminds us to give thanks and praise; Jesus reminds us to pray always; Jesus helps us see how we are like both the tax collector and the Pharisee.
Fear Not October is the month where everyone tries to scare me. They plant ghosts and goblins and witches and skeletons in their front yard.
While I’m still plowing through my most chaotic month of the year, I’ve come to the realization that sometimes happiness is really ten minutes in the sun with a cup of coffee, away from all devices of contact. It can be pretty easy to find yourself overwhelmed quite suddenly without realizing it’s happening. My moment came after a long weekend of photography work, with a full day of wedding photography followed by a day of photographing milestones for toddlers.
It’s costume season! If you’re looking for a place to show off your finery (or scary rubber mask or elaborate couples’ getup or off-season squid costume), we suggest the Murder Mystery Dinner at the Rock starting at 5pm on Friday the 28th / Saturday the 29th. The dinner: Caesar salad, chicken marinara with roasted potatoes, and cherry cheesecake. The murder: on the Yellowstone Trail (an original dinner theater event written and directed by Paul Warshauer). The actors: a troupe of talented folks you might recognize from the streets of Granite Falls, newly invested with eerie backstories.
