Parenting Time of New Horizons Crisis Center receives Community Impact Grant

The Parenting Time program of New Horizons Crisis Center has been awarded a community impact grant from the United Way of Southwest Minnesota (UWSWMN) of $15,000. These funds will help cover the cost of providing supervised visits and safe exchanges for estranged parents and their child(ren) to ensure safety and continue the parent-child bond. This work aligns with UWSWMN’s safety and well-being priority area.

YME Volleyball defeats Lakeview 3-0

Last Tuesday, the YME Girls Varsity Volleyball team took on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in an away game for a final score of 0-3. Leaders in the game included Aria Peters who scored 28 set assists, while Kiara Sakry scored 13 digs, and Ruby Bones scored eleven kills. Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council

Last week, your usual arts columnist (Jessie Hennen) was knocked out by a head cold, so community artist Leah Cook took over. I’m back now, and sure glad I didn’t try to write last week’s edition while whacked out on cough suppressants – there was a lot of important information in it. Probably instead of sharing it with you, I’d have submitted a terrible poem about fall leaves or something. To recap: after a month of community conversations, Leah’s moved on to the project phase of her residency. She’s planned many interesting things for folks to do and create in Granite Falls over the next month and a half, and we very much hope you can help with any that interest you.

YME holds activities throughout the week to raise funds for local families

Throughout last week, the Yellow Medicine East School District hosted a number of activities to help raise funds to assist local families dealing with cancer. Not only did the events help families in the Yellow Medicine East District, but Head Football Coach Lucas Damm also extended the aid to families in Lakeview and Canby as well. “Instead of giving it to a certain charity, we thought it would mean more to give it to families in need since we had a lot of families to help out,” says Damm.

The YME Football team took on Lakeview in a home game Friday evening for an 8-47 loss. Leaders in the game included Cody Dahlager who ran 72 yards in 17 runs, with five of 12 passes completed. Dahlager also scored an interception.
