The Granite Falls Riverfront Revitalization held a meeting at Falls Café and Canoe on the evening of Wednesday, October 26th. There were 10 people present, including the group’s board members. Currently the treasurer’s position is open on the board, and they are looking to fill it. If anyone is interested, you can contact the GFRR group on Facebook by searching Granite Falls Riverfront Revitalization. They’ve also got a brand-new website that can be found at www. granitefallsriverfrontrevitalization. weebly.com. The group spoke about trying to organize a few events, one of which is singing Christmas carols by the river near the footbridge on the Winter Solstice, which is on Wednesday, December 21st. Another event they are trying to coordinate with is Ole’ and Lena Days. Possibly a lefse fling and some Smooshing. What is Smooshing? It’s a team event in which there are four people that have strapped themselves to 2x4’s and the goal is to be the fastest team to complete the course. There is some serious coordination involved with successfully completing a Smoosh game - for example, everyone needs to move together as one unit. A gentleman at the meeting explained to everyone that years ago there was a lefse fling, Smooshing, and bed races that were all held during Ole’ and Lena Days. GFRR is interested in bringing some of those activities back.
