Jan Mandelkow walks in a ceremony honoring families between the Yellow Medicine East and Lakeview School Districts dealing with Cancer. The fundraising efforts were held during YME football and volleyball games last fall.
A tribute show was held in honor of Jerry Ostensoe with Charlie Roth on guitar and vocals, David Roth on rub vest, Richard Handeen on bass, Malena Handeen on accordion and vocals, and Darwin Dyce on flute. The group sang “Goodnight Irene” (the same song Jerry Ostensoe would end his shows with) with a full house of patrons singing along.
Multiple storms affected the area over the summer, including a memorial day storm with heavy rain and large hail. Dick Petersen collected a dozen egg-sized pieces of hail at his home in Clarkfield.
The Clarkfield Prairie Cardinals hosted an Easter Egg Hunt in April at Valhalla Park. They estimate that there were over 75 children who attended the event, despite the chilly weather.
Last Tuesday, the Yellow Medicine East Boys Varsity basketball team traveled to Tracy to take home a victory against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton. Leaders in the game included Bryce Sneller and Owen Torvik, who both scored 11 points individually.
Take the 16th Annual Community Health Challenge: The objectives of the 16th Annual Community Health Challenge are to encourage people to achieve a healthier lifestyle and to get more people active in our community. Join together with three other friends to form a team. Collect points for weight loss, and participating in community events over a 12 week time frame. The cost of the challenge is $10 per person/$40 per team. Your reward, other than feeling better and looking better, may be a cash prize! The first weigh-in will be anytime between January 3rd – January 15th. We will have a middle weigh-in anytime between February 11th – 19th, and the final weigh-in will be anytime between March 25th – April 2nd. The deadline to register a team is Sunday, January 15th.
Yellow Medicine East girl’s basketball coach Ryan Schultz said his players and coaching staff are especially excited for Friday night’s game at MACCRAY. “Everyone is eager to play again, after the long layoff,” he said after practice on Tuesday.
