Many Minnesotans visit state parks and hit the trails in summer, but winter outdoor activities are just as fun. To help people plan winter visits to state parks, recreation areas and trails, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources shares top ways to have fun this winter, with or without snow.
Hunters harvested more than 170,000 deer during the 2024 hunting season, up 7% statewide from the 2023 hunting season. The statewide harvest was 3% lower than the five-year average.
As winter arrives in Minnesota, so does the chore of clearing pavement – sometimes with salt. But before you reach for that bag and begin to scatter, consider using other tools to the get the job done that are less toxic to our waterways and our beloved pets, and will save you money.
Question: I have seen numerous times where a bicyclist will not stop at a stop sign, if they are sharing the road with automobiles. I have seen a couple of close incidents where the bicyclist is almost hit as well. Are bicyclists under the same rules if they are sharing the road with automobiles?
Today we will consider words. Words are the building blocks of language. People use words for all kinds of reasons. People use words to convey ideas and emotions, to connect to other human beings, and to navigate, shape, and understand the world. It’s like I always meant to say: Words is good, man.
In the five counties Prairie Five covers, we are fortunate to have a number of people who are able to present Dementia Friends, the educational session which gives a wonderful overview of memory loss and how each of us can make a difference for those touched by this disease. When I began presenting these sessions in 2019, I realized that there was a desire and need for more information on memory loss. Upon contacting the Alzheimer’s Association to see what sort of educational options they had available, I learned there was no one from our region on their Speakers Team.
The Hawk Creek Watershed Project (HCWP) is holding its 23rd Annual Information and Appreciation Meeting on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at the Renville Community Center, starting with registration at 9 am and ending with lunch at 12:30. Presenters include Dr. Kami D. Anez, President of Anez Consulting, Inc. of Willmar, who will discuss the impacts and interactions of healthy soil on our health. Dr. Matt Simcik with the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, will present on PFAS, commonly known as “forever chemicals”, and how they affect our health and water quality and what actions are being taken to mitigate them.
