Research biologists from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities will begin capturing and collaring elk for an in-depth elk research project in northwest Minnesota beginning early March 2025.
American Legion National Commander James A. LaCoursiere Jr. of Connecticut is coming to Granite Falls and will speak on issues of importance to Minnesota veterans. LaCoursiere is strongly committed to raising awareness for The American Legion’s “Be the One” efforts to prevent veteran suicide.

VITA is the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, and the initiative was designed to support free tax preparation services. If your annual income is less than $84,000 (with wages paid by an employer; self-employment of less than $10,000 only), then you qualify for this free service. Tax services are available by appointment only and while there are still spots available, I’d suggest calling the Tax Clinic Line at 320-226-8118 soon to get yours reserved.
A 1987 YME graduate, Robbi Peterson, leaves this Saturday from his home in West Chicago to travel overseas to take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, taking the Flame of Hope across northern Italy in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Last Tuesday was the 100th day of school at Yellow Medicine East and Bert Raney Elementary. The Middle/High School held their annual “Stinger Hunt,” where the staff hid small resin bees throughout the building, and the winning advisory with the most bees at the end of the day won a pizza party courtesy of the YME Parent Teacher Organization. Mr. Lalim’s senior advisory brought in the most bees and was treated to their prize. BRE students celebrated with a variety of activities celebrating the number 100.
