Archery in the Parks at Lac qui Parle State Park, Saturday May 24th

Archery in the Parks is hands-on instruction shooting a bow and arrow from certified instructors in a safe and supportive environment. Aim for a family adventure with kid-friendly equipment designed for beginners aged 8 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult. All equipment is provided. Personal archery equipment is not allowed. This program is run as a stop by, first come first served program.

Temperatures closer to average

We saw some frost over the weekend and earlier this week in parts of Minnesota. It always is a gamble this time of the year as the temperatures can range from the 80s and 90s for highs, to the 20s and 30s for overnight lows. Many people had to cover their plants or bring them inside earlier this week.

New SBA HUBZone designation expands contracting opportunities for small businesses in Minnesota

The U.S. Small Business Administration recently approved a Governor-designated request from the State of Minnesota to expand SBA’s HUBZone program to cover the entirety of Otter Tail County and certain Census tracts in the counties of Becker, Carlton, Chisago, Isanti, Mille Lacs, and Roseau. This designation enables small businesses in high-unemployment, low-income areas to get HUBZone certified and be eligible for special set-aside federal government contracts.

YME Softball takes home wins

Last week, the Yellow Medicine East Girls Varsity Softball team took on Ortonville for a 4-0 victory. Leaders in the game included Ella Cherveny who was 3-for-4 with two runs and a stolen base, while Bayli Sneller struck out 11 at the pitching mound. Complete scoring follows:

YME awards 28 scholarships

Over the weekend, the Scholarship Yellow Medicine East Awards Banquet was held, honoring the hard work and achievements of our graduating seniors. This year, 28 Yellow Medicine East students who applied were awarded a combined total of over $89,000 in scholarships to support their post-secondary education.

Unified Sting holds end of year picnic

The YME Unified Sting hosted an end of the year picnic and senior recognition day last week. There were five students who will be graduating from the club this year. Amelia Hettver, Madasyn Ludwig, Koda Atine, Jack Tjosvold, and Hope Foy fwere a part of the school’s inclusive initiative to spread kindness and awareness to the district. Please reach out to Mrs. Hoefer if your student will be in 7th -12th grade next year and wants to be a part of the Unified Sting group for the 2025/2026 school year.
