Velde appointed to Center for Rural Policy and Development
Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan today announced the following appointments to the Board of the Perpich Center for Arts Education, Board of Water and Soil Resources, Center for Rural Policy and Development, Home Care Orientation Trust, and the State of Minnesota Board of Public Defense.
Clarkfield Student Among Minnesota Connections Academy’s Class of 2025
In June, 795 graduating seniors from communities across Minnesota were awarded their high school diplomas as members of Minnesota Connections Academy’s Class of 2025. The tuition-free, public online school recently recognized graduates during a traditional, in-person commencement ceremony at the Minneapolis Convention Center on June 7.

So far this summer, the few fishing adventures I’ve managed to be able to fit into the schedule have involved mostly catching small, not very strong fish. That was not the case last week, attempting to fish near the dam in Granite Falls. Instead, I fought multiple very large fish, with not a heavy enough line to do so.
New musician visits Granite Falls
On Saturday afternoon, soon to be southwest Minnesota musician Hope Rasmussen took the stage at Bluenose Gopher Public House for a free live music performance after the Western Fest Parade. Rasmussen, who will be moving to the area soon, hopes to perform more local shows throughout the region in the future.

Trees planted in honor of Arbor Day
This year marks the 52nd anniversary of the Arbor Day Foundation, the largest member nonprofit organization on a mission to plant and distribute trees around the world. The celebrating of Arbor Day began in January of 1872, when a Nebraska Newspaper editor named J. Sterling Morton proposed a tree planting holiday at a meeting of the State Board of Agriculture. The first celebration was held on April 10, 1872, offering prizes to those who planted the largest number of trees. Estimates for trees planted that day totaled more than one million trees. The City of Granite Falls planted trees on 15th Avenue in honor of the day.
