Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council: Come Listen to the Youth…

The future (we insist) is bright, especially if we – like the folks leaning out the fake window on the second story of the Berge – water the seeds we plant now. This year’s Meander kickoff event, beginning this Friday at 6pm with a happy hour on the footbridge, is all about the kids, meaning the many young musicians who enrich the air of Granite Falls with their songs, sounds, and stylings. It is also about food.

October is the time for fall colors; a beauty that is amazing in our communities. It’s also the time for hearing combines, seeing those plumes of dust from harvesting beans, and seeing the lights of farmers in the fields well after dark. It’s seeing local grain trucks lining up at elevators with harvests to feed the world. Fall affects all our sensory system—the smell of the final grass cuttings, the chill of cool nights in sweatshirts, the sound of crackling bonfires, the beautiful images of the campfire, and the wonderful taste of s’mores.
