Setting the annual property tax levy has to happen before the end of the year and so the Granite Falls City Council, after answering some questions at the annual truth-in taxation hearing two weeks ago, voted to set the 2023 property tax levy at $2,454,568, which includes the General Fund levy and levies for recent bonded projects for streets and other news. That total levy is a roughly nine percent increase over the amount levied in 2022. It should be noted that the city held down increases in property tax levies during the recent Covid-laced years and now we are catching up. In addition, inflation has played a role in raising expenses.
