YME defeats Red Rock Central 68-65

Last Tuesday, the Yellow Medicine East Varsity Boys Basketball team hosted Red Rock Central for a 68-65 victory that came after a three-point shot in the final seconds of the game. With just seconds left on the clock, Drew Almich went for a three-point shot that rolled around the inside of the rim, but popped back out of the hoop.

Echo Lions hold Santa Day event

Community members gathered last Saturday for Santa Day in Echo. The event included Free BINGO for turkeys, hams, and meal sides thanks to local businesses donating/ sponsoring the BINGO items. These businesses included Farmers Coop Oil of Echo, Dan Larsen Tax Preparation, Granite Works, Echo Fire Department, Sharon’s Headquarters, Gjerset Trucking, Sunset Funeral Home, Kotek Trucking, Farmers Union Insurance of Montevideo, Kvistad Farm, Bendix Plumbing and Heating, Daryl Kuehn Heating and AC, and Pederson Farm Partnership. Hickory Lane Farm of Echo donated the potatoes for the BINGO meal side bags.

While my son was deployed in the Middle East, I wrote about my grandma’s great cookie mission. Each week she would bake and send box after box of cookies and then, once they arrived, my son would go around base and hand them out to all of his fellow soldiers that were around at distribution time.

Tis’ the season – it’s a phrase we hear often these days. We are in a season of holiday celebrations, a season of hustle and bustle, a season of balancing want vs. need, and of course, a season of giving. And while December is a time we tend to think more about the spirit of giving and receiving, it’s a need that our communities and neighbors have year-round.
