Cold front pushes through for the weekend

We all think back to the Halloween Blizzard of 1991 here in Minnesota where snow and ice fell and impacted the fun for the trick-or-treaters. That event is now 31 years-ago, so most of those trickor- treaters are now near 40-years-old or older! This year, we had some great weather for the ghosts and goblins who rang our doorbells on Monday. High temps on Halloween were generally in the low to mid 60s around the state! There was no trouble getting around this year for all the neighborhood fun or some of the organized trick-ortreating events. We will see our mild weather continuing through Wednesday before a cold-front is expected to push through by Thursday. This could bring some much-needed rain to the region. Some parts of the state are seeing a deficit of over 10 inches of rain for the year so they are in an “extreme drought” situation!

River Ramblings…

It’s been nearly two weeks since we said our last good-byes to Jerry Ostensoe. There was a heartfelt and thoughtful memorial service, followed by an afternoon and evening of gathering and listening to wonderful music performed by several talented local area musicians. And the evening before there was live music dedicated to Jerry’s legacy at Blue Nose in downtown Granite.

Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council: An Ode to Mustache Boy

Let’s kick off this week’s column with our community artist in residence Leah Cook’s report from a horse stall at the Lee Mar Ranch’s Trick or Treat event on Sunday, October 30th: “Our decorated stall was like the best miniature prom-box ever, with swags of glittery blue and orange tulle, dinosaurs in eye-popping, shiny or glittery colors, the enormous Wonder Beast sculpture-in-progress made by the ag welding class, a Wonder- Box in progress with freshwater mussels and sequined curtains, and an enormous tub of candy. The door count reported handing out over 200+ trick or treating bags. We lost count after the first 30 minutes.

Live Well, Age Wisely:

After my knee surgery, I knew it would be important to create some new routines to have to follow in my time of recovery. One of my favorites was that after work each day, I would crutch into my PT studio (aka the guest bedroom) and turn on Jeopardy to accompany my exercises.

From the Editor’s Desk

I don’t spend a lot of time on television - whether it be television shows, or movies. I’ve shocked people with my lack of knowledge about classic movies -having never watched most of them.

Beyond Reason

The evening is coming when children, and I use that term “children” loosely, will come to my door, dressed in costumes that range from cute to the macabre to the barely there. These little people will hold their bag of candy/loot in front of me, and utter the phrase “Trick or Treat”.
