Sarah Vonderhaar a finalist for “Outstanding Contributions to Public Health Education”

On October 19, 2022, the Minnesota Society for Public Health Education (MNSOPHE) announced the awardee for the “Outstanding Contributions for Public Health Education” award. Chippewa County’s very own, Sarah Vonderharr, was a top finalist for this honorable award for her significant contributions to public health education in Yellow Medicine County. The Minnesota Society for Public Health Education is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide leadership to the profession of health education and health promotion, and to promote our communities’ health. This year’s award criteria were based off the nominee’s demonstration of leadership to public health education, impact on the health of the “community” they serve (city, town, business, school), innovative program design, implementation or evaluation of public health education, and advocacy for policy change or for the profession. Notes from the Granite Area Arts Council: Costumes are Absolutely Art

It’s costume season! If you’re looking for a place to show off your finery (or scary rubber mask or elaborate couples’ getup or off-season squid costume), we suggest the Murder Mystery Dinner at the Rock starting at 5pm on Friday the 28th / Saturday the 29th. The dinner: Caesar salad, chicken marinara with roasted potatoes, and cherry cheesecake. The murder: on the Yellowstone Trail (an original dinner theater event written and directed by Paul Warshauer). The actors: a troupe of talented folks you might recognize from the streets of Granite Falls, newly invested with eerie backstories.

From the Editor’s Desk

While I’m still plowing through my most chaotic month of the year, I’ve come to the realization that sometimes happiness is really ten minutes in the sun with a cup of coffee, away from all devices of contact. It can be pretty easy to find yourself overwhelmed quite suddenly without realizing it’s happening. My moment came after a long weekend of photography work, with a full day of wedding photography followed by a day of photographing milestones for toddlers.

Beyond Reason

Fear Not October is the month where everyone tries to scare me. They plant ghosts and goblins and witches and skeletons in their front yard.

“Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven.”

Through all of October the gospel text in the Revised Common Lectionary has been on Jesus talking about faith, praise, and prayer to God. Jesus emphasized that faith the size of a mustard seed is all you need; Jesus reminds us to give thanks and praise; Jesus reminds us to pray always; Jesus helps us see how we are like both the tax collector and the Pharisee.
