YME Football defeats RTR 32-0

Yellow Medicine East’s Football team defeated Russell-Tyler- Ruthton in Tyler on Friday evening with a final score of 320, bringing the season record to 4-3. The team played again this Wednesday against MACCRAY in a home game. Scores were not available at print time, and will be reported on in next week’s edition of the newspaper.

Granite Falls Fire Department draws a crowd with annual open house

The Granite Falls Fire Department held an open house on Thursday, October 13th from 5 pm – 7 pm. The public was invited to come to look at all the fire and rescue vehicles, and the fire department served hotdogs. There were two kid’s bicycles to be given away as well as a table full of other goodies for kids. Paul Enstad, who was volunteering at the goodie table, has been volunteering at the fire hall for over 10 years. There was also a “fire wall” for kids to shoot the water hose at as well as the fire department’s rescue drone hovering in the sky for everyone to check out.

We’re getting closer to the Great Minnesota Cook-Off, thus I’ve been working on plans, and organizing, hoping for a good turnout and a fun event for all. As I’ve been preparing I’ve been thinking about what kinds of things we really exclusively call Minnesotan. It was Betsy at Bluenose Gopher Public House that brought to my attention that we really refer to certain desserts as “bars” as a Minnesota thing. I had no idea.

Paid Election Letter When Tim Walz ran for governor four years ago, he made a promise that if elected he would work for “one Minnesota.” He made it clear that as governor there would be no rural and urban divide and that governing would not be about Democrats versus Republicans and partisan bickering. He said that Minnesota is best when Minnesotans work together for the common good.
