As I write my column this week, I’m surrounded by boxes of graduation decorations, photographs, graduation caps and gowns, and all other kinds of necessary items to host a party for my graduate. We didn’t hold a graduation party for my oldest, as he was off to basic training the summer of his junior year, and off to advanced training directly at the end of senior year.
2022 Seniors . . . Well, here you are about to graduate. I’m sure you’re pinching yourself at the prospect of reaching your goal of the last 12 years. I think of you all as caterpillars. You’re about to leave your cocoons; your high school and homes, to emerge as butterflies and fly away to your futures.

Earl J. Eckert, better known as Jim, of Fridley passed away on April 26, 2022 at Mercy Hospital, at the age of 83.
Karen June Sell, 82, of Willmar died Thursday, May 26 at Carris Health Care Center in Willmar. Her funeral service was at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 1 at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Marjorie Hegna, 88, of Granite Falls passed away on Sunday, May 29 at her residence. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 6 at 11 a.m. at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
Alice Lukken, 97, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Nelson Gables Assisted Living in Alexandria. Alice was born on April 17, 1924 in Riverside Township to Andrew and Hilma (Lee) Westgaard.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls with interment following at First English Lutheran Cemetery near Sacred Heart. Visitation was Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Kem Black, 64, of Sacred Heart passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on Monday, May 23, 2022. A Celebration of Life was held on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home in Granite Falls with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
William “Willie” Upton, 81, of Granite Falls passed away Saturday, May 28, 2022, at his home surrounded by family. Visitation will be held Friday, June 3, 2022 from 3-5 p.m. at Wing-Bain Funeral Home and the celebration will continue at the Granite Falls Golf Course.
