From the Editor’s Desk

We’re well into the spring sports season, and still dealing with cancellations, reschedules, and shortened games because of all the cold, rainy, windy weather. I don’t recall a spring sports season that’s been quite so interrupted in many years.

Minnesota Twins offer free hats

Anyone with a 2022 Minnesota fishing or hunting license can receive a free camouflage and blaze orange Minnesota Twins logo cap thanks to a special ticket offer. That’s right — the Minnesota DNR Days are back at Twins games this season, through a partnership between the Twins and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Ariel Christine Malone

Ariel Christine Sakry was born on February 10, 1997, in Alexandria and brought much joy to her parents, Nichole (Toft) and Josh Sakry. She was baptized at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Ariel graduated from Yellow Medicine East High School in Granite Falls in 2015 before attending Fergus Falls Community College for her generals. She had just recently been accepted to SMSU in Marshall to start her journey towards becoming a teacher. She has worked since she was 15 years old after obtaining her CNA license.

Beyond Reason

Mother’s Day is the one day a year when Mother gets to put her feet up and is waited on hand and foot by her minion. Father brings her an iced coffee, just the way she likes it. The children deliver the remote control, blankets, and a snack. Uninterrupted, Mother watches an entire episode of BBC-produced British period piece on PBS. It is pure bliss.

More seasonal weather on the way

It was not one of those weekends to write home about as it was wet and chilly. Some locations picked up nearly 2.00 inches of rain. Rainfall amounts of .50 to 1.25 inches were very common throughout the state. All of this rain this spring, and the snow this past winter, has put the drought behind us for pretty much the entire state of Minnesota, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. For those who have not been happy with our chilly and wet spring, this has been the one silver lining in all of this crazy weather.
